The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is an apex body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Established in 1985, APEDA's primary objective is to promote export-oriented production and development of agricultural and processed food products from India. APEDA focuses on promoting the export of agricultural commodities and processed food products. It facilitates exporters by providing them with necessary information, guidelines, and support to enhance their export capabilities. APEDA plays a crucial role in maintaining and improving the quality of agricultural products and processed foods. It sets standards and specifications for various products to ensure they meet international quality requirements, thereby enhancing India's competitiveness in global markets. Another important function of APEDA is to identify and develop new markets for Indian agricultural and food products worldwide. This includes organizing trade delegations, participating in international fairs and exhibitions, and conducting market research to understand consumer preferences and trends. APEDA also encourages diversification in agricultural and food product exports. It promotes value addition and innovation in processing techniques to offer a wide range of high-quality products to global consumers. Furthermore, APEDA engages in capacity-building activities for stakeholders involved in the export of agricultural and processed food products. This includes training programs, workshops, and seminars on various aspects such as packaging, labeling, quality standards, and export procedures. APEDA provides certification and registration services to exporters and producers of agricultural products. Exporters need to comply with APEDA's regulations and obtain necessary certifications to ensure product quality and adherence to international standards. Additionally, APEDA promotes Geographical Indications (GI) for agricultural products, which helps protect unique products originating from specific regions of India, adding value to such products in the global market.
